Why is National Nonprofit Day on August 17th?
Well, on this day waaaaay back in 1894, the Tariff Act of 1894 was signed into effect, and with it came the first federal income tax on corporations from which nonprofits and charities were exempted.
What impact does a single nonprofit have on the world?
On this great day that is National Nonprofit Day, we’d like to share some of the wonderful achievements our partners have made on their journey to make the world a better place.
- OurCalling raised over $4M using Harness to help the homeless to live a healthy and sustainable lifestyle by building lasting relationships and making disciples on the streets in the Greater Dallas Texas Area.
- Fresh Start Women’s Foundation works to improve women's’ lives by equipping them with career and education skills and tools while providing a range of support services, including family law support and mentorship, that have a positive effect on her and her family.
- Boys and Girls Club of Portland empowers all young people in the Portland metro area to discover their full potential as caring, engaged, and responsible community members. Over the pandemic, the launch a whole host of engaging virtual events bringing their community together during a time that many needed it most.
- Greater Birmingham Humane Society has been helping people and pets since 1883 to promote the humane treatment of people and animals through education, advocacy, and services. Beyond adoption the offer animal control, their GOOD Program, which provides shelters and rescues with access to pet food and other supplies, and a lost and found pets program, reunited people with their pets.
